Escape to French Canada: Enjoying French Art, Cuisine & Culture in Charlevoix

Image
I arrived in the late afternoon after catching the “tourist train” from Quebec City. Okay so technically its called the Charlevoix Light Train, but it operates purely to transport tourists from Quebec City to the Charlevoix Region, and while it might be more expensive and time consuming than driving, it’s a great option to reach Baie-Saint-Paul with little effort required. The train will take approx. 2 hours, whereas to drive is half the time from the same departure point – but at the end of the day, whichever option suits you best! Driving in Charlevoix I chose to take the train to Baie-Saint-Paul and rent a car there (making it easier to collect/drop-off at the same point), which was a great way to see the region. You will indeed need a car once in the area if you wish to look around and it is the way in which all visitors get around, so consider booking a rental car in advance. So where should you go from Baie-Saint-Paul? Be sure to check out the “Fla...

River Surfing In Montreal: Not Your Typical Surf Trip

Surfing in Montreal Montreal, Canada When you think of Canada, does surfing come to mind? In the city of Montreal it’s possible to surf perpetual waves on the mighty Saint Lawrence River. Known for its strong currents and whitewater rapids, Montreal’s Saint Lawrence River is a favorite spot for kayaking and rafting trips. But local surfers also take advantage of the unique conditions here. Every day you’ll find a handful of surfers riding river waves. Wanting to try it for myself, I filled a cooler with refreshing Cayman Jack Margaritas and drove up to Montreal for a few days of river surfing on the outskirts of the city. I knew that after spending a few days in the sun, cooling off with the taste of Cayman Jack – blue agave nectar, organic limes and real cane sugar – would be exactly what I’d need. Not Your Typical Surf Spot Stocked with Refreshments River Surfing Only a handful of rivers around the world boast standing waves large enough to...

So it was without hesitation that we decided to drive the 2,390KM from Calgary to Edmonton via Banff and Jasper national parks. Here’s everything you need to know about our epic trip.
