An eco-break at Piran Meadows, Darwin Escapes: REVIEW
I’m what you may call a ‘holiday intruder’. If any family members or friends announce that they’re going away; I’ll try my best to ensure that I can go with them. So apologies if you know me and you’ve planned a cool trip that you don’t really want me to come on… I’ll probably find a way to be there I’m afraid. It’s just what I do.
So, when my dad told me he was planning a week in Cornwall with my gran and great aunt, I immediately booked three days off work and decided to visit for half a week. (Which I think they were pleased about…)
We got an amazing deal at Piran Meadows Resort and Spa; just £250 for a week’s stay in a luxury three-bedroom caravan. It’s the kind of place that obviously comes alive in the school holidays, with lots of kids’ activities and sun lounging opportunities! But there’s plenty to enjoy out of season too. The scenery around is absolutely breath-taking and there’s lots of activities and adventures to be had in Cornwall.
The caravan park is kitted out with a bar, restaurant, small shop, swimming pool, steam room, sauna and kids play area. You can also book activities like zorbing or fencing through reception – so if you want an active break in Cornwall, Piran Meadows could be your answer!
I didn’t try any of the activities myself, but they looked like great fun! The pool was quiet and the steam room and sauna perfect for relaxation. There’s also an on-site spa, offering a range of treatments, from facials to pedicures.
The caravans themselves are spacious and can sleep up to six people. They take full advantage of the freedom that is only offered with this type of holiday; the liberty to do exactly whatever you please, when you wish. Each caravan contains a fully stocked kitchen, meaning that you can cook as you please, a lounge area with a flat screen TV, three bedrooms and individual WiFi connection.
There might be a whole host of activities on offer at Piran Meadows, but the caravan site is perfect for those who want to kick back and relax – which you have your own private balcony for! There’s none of the claustrophobia you get with busy hotels; at Piran Meadows you can take the day exactly as you please, cooking when you want, enjoying the facilities as you wish, or getting in the car for an action packed day exploring North Cornwall.
Piran Meadows is a perfect Cornish escape; somewhere to really get away from it all and enjoy the extraordinary surrounding beaches, tranquil countryside and charming towns. But what really drew me to the campsite, and to the company Darwin Escapes was their fantastic environmental ethos. Darwin Escapes are committed to doing everything possible to minimise their carbon footprint and ensure that these fabulous caravanning holidays can continue long into the future.
“At Darwin Escapes we believe that environmental management goes far beyond just obeying local legislations and that a good environmental practice is a fundamental corporate responsibility and is the key to providing a sustainable world for future generations to enjoy” – Darwin Escapes eco-friendly policy
Piran Meadows have really thought of everything when establishing themselves as an eco friendly company. Just some of the things they boast are: low energy bulbs and sensor lighting, an insulated base and sides for the swimming pool and pool covers, WCs with a low volume dual flush, natural wildflowers for animal life, natural trees in the grounds, local building materials, local suppliers and use of sustainable sources, complex recycling and recycling waste oil into bio fuel.
There are some friendly reminders around the park to recycle and conserve energy; and the wind turbines which dot the landscape serve as a gentle nudge into the sustainable future that we are entering.
Thanks to companies like Darwin Escapes, we will be able to enjoy eco-breaks in the unmatchable beauty of the Cornish landscape for much longer! I think it’s hugely important to book through companies like these, as they are paving the way for responsible tourism and ensuring that us travellers will have a world to love and explore in the future. It’s always a pleasure to stay with a company with such a strong environmental ethos, and if you’re looking for a holiday in North Cornwall, I highly recommend Piran Meadows Resort and Spa.
Darwin Escapes don’t just cover Cornwall, and their fantastic ethos is in action throughout their campsites; which span from Surrey to the Lake District. Check out their website to see all of their fantastic holiday venues, where they continue to provide extraordinary service in an eco-friendly way.
I have not received any complimentary accommodation or discount for this review (Darwin Escapes don’t even know about the review yet…). All views in this review and any future reviews (even if I do receive freebies) are and will always be my own, promise.
